And on the track, well, Rudi Altig again, Jens Lehmann, Michael Hubner, Jens Fiedler, Robert Bartko, Jan van Eijden, Carsten Podlesch, Gerd Dorich (I've raced against him!)

Plus they're still churning them out: Andre Greipel, the whole German track sprint team, Gerald Ciolek, Roger Kluge.....

Hello All,
I'm traveling to Berlin for the last two weeks of May and would really like to get out on some trails to mountain bike, or even get my hands on a road bike. I've looked through many of the shops recommended on here, and most don't mention a word about rentals. Does anyone know where to rent a decent mountain bike or road bike? As for where to ride. From what I've seen, the Grunewald and Muggelsee areas look popular around Berlin. I won't have car transportation, so train access(or riding is best for me). Do you have any other recommendations? I'd also be up for meeting for a ride if I get the rental thing figured out. I ride pretty often in North Florida on mountain and road.

Bike Cleaning

Does anyone know a good place to clean your bike in or around the potsdamer platz area? After a few long and wet rides over the past few weeks, I have built up an unsightly layer of grit and road grime which needs to be forceably removed. Being on the fourth floor of our flat, without a proper backyard, finding a place to wash off the bike is a bit of a problem. Anyone else encounter this and perhaps have a suggestion?

Cyclocross Rides

Have now been on my CX bikes a couple of times, and I got to say, it is really really fun. Was on my first group ride on the trails in Grunewald today and got some running in as well (probably more like walking with bike).

I have also learned the hard way that CX tires doesn't have much grip on wet asphalt - crashed my poor bike around a corner at slow speed (less than 20 kph). The wheels slid out and I fell straight down. Got some minor bruises and some scratches on the bike, but nothing too bad. My ego on the other hand...

Anyway, now my bike looks more like a proper CX bike.

GPS : Strava : My Tracks : Velo Computer

First bike ride of the year today and I was intending to use Strava but forgot to press the big blue start button on my phone. No idea if it's better than mytracks, but I like the idea of the pressure of having people you know "follow" you!

I have previously used Mytracks, "outdoor Navigation" and I can recommend Velocomputer, a paid app which converts your android phone into a bike computer which records your ride....you can then open this as a spreadsheet to analyse your stats.....if you've got a phone with an accelorometer and put your phone in the right pocket it also measures and records cadence.....it also shouts at you what speed and cadence zones you are in (customisable).

Anyone else using Strava?....quite a few in Rollapaluza CC UK do.

Finally made the switch to the road bike yesterday and only had to get off to walk over snow drifts twice!

Felt a lot faster, but Strava says I wasn't! hoping that the Spring is finally here.

Agora is proud to present a collaborative workshop with OZON Bicycles Berlin.

In this workshop, the participants will learn how to construct a bicycle frame made of Bamboo, by constructing their own one. Participants will learn about the composite structure of bamboo tubing, about working with natural fiber composites and epoxy resin, and many details about bicycle frame building and geometry.

Each participant will have a one-to-one whole day with the Instructor in OZON Bikes Studio to go through the hardest part of the building process. All participants will then meet at Agora to finish their frames (and bikes) together.

The workshop offers two options:

Option 1

One day in Ozon Studio + 14th and 15th June

Build your Bamboo frame in a 3 days process, learning how to manipulate epoxy resin and taking your new brand Bamboo frame home, so you can make it into a bike in your own pace.

Option 1 costs 465€ (including all materials)

Option 2

One day in Ozon Studio + 14, 15th and 16th June at Agora

Build a complete bike with a bamboo frame in a 4 days process.

Option 2 costs 1225€ (including all materials)

Pre-requisites

Any basic skills in a creative, hands-on area like woodworking, sewing, or modelmaking will help. The only special tools we use are a drill-press and Japanese pull-saw. However, we believe our system is so simple and intuitive that nearly anyone of any skill level can do it.

PLEASE BRING your own safety goggles and dust mask! Masks with an “”exhale valve”" cost around 5€ at any hardware store and work quite nicely.

About the Instructor

Daniel Vogel-Essex graduated from Industrial Design at DAAP (design, architecture, art and planning) in Cincinnati Ohio in 2007. He has spent the past 4 years in Berlin doing freelance product design and developing a unique method for efficiently constructing bamboo bike frames.

In 2012 he founded Ozon Cyclery along with colleages David Lohaus and Stefan Brüning. Ozon currently offers custom built bamboo bike frames as well as weekly workshops.

My wife and I are doing a self supported tour in Europe for several weeks this Spring, ending in Berlin about July 2. We will need to box and get our touring bikes home. Plan is to either get them boxed and take on train to Frankfurt for our flight, or get them boxed and shipped from Berlin to home (Vancouver Canada).

Can anyone recommend a bike shop for boxes / help / alternatives?

The finale of the Milan San Remo is approaching and it seems that our cable subscription doesn't have Eurosport 2. Will I be limited to internet streams are there other options?

Didn't ADR and ZDF drop out of cycling coverage because of the continued doping scandals.....?

If like me you only have internet www.cyclingfans.com always lists the available streams as they come on line during the race.

donauweg in serbia: novi sad -- belgrad with bikes on catamaran

This summer, my wife Greta and I will cycle from Budapest to Belgrad
(Donauweg). As there seems to be a lot of traffic between Novi Sad and
Belgrad, we thought it could be a nice idea to travel that traject (ca. 90
km) by boat. The company Dunavski rafting
(http://www.dunavskirafting.com/de-index.html) is ready to take us on
their catamaran, on condition that they can carry a group of about 10
persons. Depending on the number of passengers their price would be about
80 euro. The traject would last two days, with the night to be spent in
Slankamen, about half way between Novi Sad and Belgrad. Dinner and
breakfast in Slankamen are included. We would like to leave Novi Sad on
July 25, but one day earlier or later is possible. Who would like to join
